ABOUT NORTH EAST SAFETY

North East Safety specializes in Agricultural safety.

Being an ex farmer with a high level qualification in Safety (Post Grad Diploma Massey) puts me in a good position to create practical safety systems.

North East Safety can also help other small/medium business with their safety needs.

I have had experience in many other business.

I have recently achieved accreditation onto the Health and Safety Association of New Zealand (HASANZ) data base of Health and Safety Professionals.

North East Safety is based in Putaruru, South Waikato. Steve Percival is the primary consultant for North East Safety. I have always had an interest in safety. After completing a Batchelor Applied Science I loved the rural life so I took up dairy farming. I farmed for a few years before I took up roles in management. Safety was a big part of my roles in management. I then decided on a change in career. I wanted to make Health and Safety my core role. I then went back to Massey University and completed a Post Grad Diploma in Health and Safety (Graduated 2016). I studied part time so I could continue to work. My company contracted to Farm Safe. I did all the consultant work in the Waikato/King Country as well as developing the Health and Safety Manual to be used by other consultants Nation Wide. In my time with Farm Safe I also did a number of presentations around the country (both Islands) to educate people (mostly farmers) about the benefits of a robust Health and Safety system. Farm Safe then closed their doors late 2016. I decided to keep going under my own companies name, increasing the profile of North East Safety. I specialise in Rural Safety (Dairy Farms, Dry stock Farms, Goat Farms, Deer Farms, Sheep Milking, Apiculture, Poultry (egg and hatching) and many rural contractors, fencers, fertiliser spreaders, etc), As well as my rural experience I have also have experience in many other small businesses, these include:

- Hair Dresser
- Kitchen and Aluminium Joinery
- Construction
- Mechanics (mobile and fixed)
- Motor Camp
- Tourism Businesses

I am a Graduate member of New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM). I am an active committee member of the newly established NZISM Rotorua Branch.
In July 2018 is achieved registration on to the newly formed Health and Safety Association of New Zealand (HASANZ) register of workplace Health and Safety Professionals.

OUR SERVICES

North East Safety can help you with all your safety needs. There are 2 main services that I offer, Audits/reviews and creation of a H&S system.

Contact me for further information and a price for your business.

  • AUDITS REVIEWS
  • Lets Get Started
  • Where there is already a robust H&S system in place there is no point in re-inventing the wheel. I can audit your current system. There is no pass of fail on an audit. At the end of the audit/review I will come up with a list of safety recommendations (these are separated into critical risks where required). These usually require a site visit and time to write the report.
  • BOOK
  • HEALTH AND SAFETY SYSTEMS
  • Get Compliant
  • When a business has little of no H&S system I can create a system from scratch. I will create and provide all the H&S policies (both in digital and hard copy) that are required and then train the staff/management into the use of the H&S system. The time this takes depends on the size and nature of the business and other variables such as number of sites.

Stock Loading Ramps

Mobile stock ramps are a common piece of farm equipment, used during the loading and unloading of stock. Poorly designed or maintained ramps, and poor practice using them, pose a real danger to those who use them. Workers like stock truck drivers and farm workers need to be aware of the risks associated with these ramps.

Farmers urged to focus on critical risks to avoid joining summer accident toll

Summer is a busy time on the farm, but it’s also among the most hazardous periods for accidents.

Almost 550 farmers suffered injuries serious enough for them to take at least a week off work over the last summer (December 2017 - February 2018) while there were three fatalities on farms.

The major causes of injuries were trips, slips and falls, being hit or bitten by animals, hit by moving objects and incidents involving vehicles, according to data from ACC.
